Pioneer F.C was formed in 1931 and was originally known as Pioneer Scouts F.C. Matches were played in and around the Amersham area and under the leadership of George (Skip) King the club developed and during the 1950’s fielded 7 teams every Saturday.
Two of these teams were for younger players, the “Youth team” were U16’s and the “Minor team” U18’s. Many of the young players in the district played for Pioneer Scouts with several moving on to play for senior amatuer and proffessional clubs.
With the demise of local Saturday football Pioneer became a Sunday League club and ran two and at times three sides in the Chesham Sunday League.
The change of name followed as the scout connection with the 1 st Chesham Bois Scout Troop was dropped.
Success in Sunday Football began in the 70’s and has continued with the late 90’s and the early years of the 21 st Century being very successful on the field of play.
Pioneer celebrated their 70 th season with an Anniversary Dinner at the Bell House Hotel with over 160 attending the event. Guest speaker Alan Kennedy (Newcastle – Liverpool –England) commented on the strength in depth from the Committee through to the players. This is demonstrated by the loyalty of the officers of the club with president Ron Allen who has served for over 40 years, Don Breakspear who is the reserve team linesman at the tender age of 70- something!
Tremendous support also comes form their wives, Doreen Breakspear holding the unenviable post of club treasurer / kit washer / etc.etc.
As a move forward the decision to move the 1 st team into the Watford Sunday League for the season 2004 - 2005 was taken and a Club Website set up to promote the club and keep in touch with the fast changing world of football at grass roots level.
A policy has been set up to encourage young players at the age of 18 to join Pioneer at the stage when they are too old for junior football. Time will tell whether or not the idea is a success.
The website will hopefully enable communication between players, friends, old players and potential newcomers to the club. A page for ideas and ways of improving the way things are done will be encouraged and match reports, team photos and will be posted each week.
Realistically, Pioneer F C will probably never rise above the level of Sunday League Football, there is no intention to do so. The Club’s ambition is reach it’s realistic potential by playing good football in a competitive and sporting manner. |
